PAPA JOE AVIANCE

It’s funny how music comes in so many different forms. And I feel so blessed to have found my niche. I love songs that
have a message and are from the soul… the words and the music combine and it makes magic.
This is going to sound like an Army brat story, but I was a civilian, born and partly raised in Saginaw, Michigan, and
from there I moved to Springfield, Virginia(Alexandria D.C. area). The day after high school, I moved to New York (just
like Madonna- LOL)! After the first two years of the city kicking my butt, I moved back home to regroup. I had to leave
my college and nightlife scene behind. But from home, I managed to make my way into the corporate world.
A few years passed(two and a half to be exact!), and, having the tools and knowledge to take care of business, I was
ready for NYC again- only this time, I was able to make it my home for over ten years! And oh, the stories, the stories,
the stories… In the NYC nightlife scene, they say music soothes the savage beast.
Well, it moved me. Through house music, I was able to take all the other genres that I’ve listened to in the past and
really study the music and how it’s created...listening to music for me is like reading a book- it takes you on an
adventure. It tells a story. With a beginning, middle, and sometimes no end, except the one we make for ourselves.
As for me, I’m still in the middle, working toward that end. And a major turning point to the middle happened when I
moved to Los Angeles and worked at a video store. One random night, superstar dj/producer Eddie Amador came in to
get a movie. The usual “have a good night” was replaced with an amazing conversation, where we realized we should
try working together. We ended up doing a mega after hours event at the Music Box Theater in Hollywood called
“NOW,” which inspired our first production together of the same title. It was immediately signed to KULT Records, and
already has support from Danny Tenaglia, DJ Vibe, and Danny Rampling. It is set to be debuted this year at the 2009
Winter Music Conference in Miami. In the meantime, I got an amazing opportunity to feature on Lula’s hit track “Last
Night a DJ Saved My Life(While a DJ Gave Me Trouble),” which eventually hit #6 on the Billboard Dance Charts!!!
Later this year, look for my releases with Eddie Amador on Nervous Records in NYC and Defected in the U.K. I hope you
enjoy movin’ and groovin’ with them as much as I did while writing them.
For as long as I can remember, music has been a part of my life. At this time, I finally get to show my love of music,
my love of the words, and the love of my soul. Live it, love it, NOW.
Alright, now that I’ve gotten all deep on you, the message of my music is short and straight to the point: throughout all
of my experiences, I’ve managed to feel good about myself, and enjoy my life. And that’s what I want for you, my
friend: to make you feel good about yourself, and to enjoy your life to the fullest.
