Paul Manchin

Paul Manchin is a Canadian singer-songwriter, musician and actor. Raised near Toronto, Manchin moved to New York City to pursue a career in music. He released his self-titled debut album in 1998 and was reviewed very favourably in Billboard Magazine. His music caught the attention of Billboard's Larry Flick who has described Manchin using his "lovely, soulful voice" and his songs as a "feisty package of memorable, rhythm-smart gems."
As a songwriter and musician, Manchin's works explore dance, love, equality and humanity. Classically trained in vocal and piano (with some additional training in guitar and flute), Manchin has recorded 13 albums to date and his work has appeared on many compilations. His songs "Phobia" and "Denim" are recognized for dealing with issues of sexual discrimination, while "Orange," "Cherry," "Don't Love You Anymore," "Here I Am," "All The Love," "Life," "Rich People Are Cheap!," "Soar" and "What Makes People Happy?" have all received some degree of commercial success, earning video airplay on MTV, VH1, Bravo, MuchVibe and many more stations. Manchin integrates elements from soul, pop, R&B, electronica, hip-hop and dance, which he playfully calls SPREHD. His music has been likened to "licking honey off the edge of a knife -- cutting edge, yet the music sounds so sweet," and he creates it with the goal of penetrating through the listener's body and mind. Some of his music has been used for film and television.
Manchin has performed at various clubs in New York City and other parts of North America (including a performance for the Mayor of Toronto). He has captured the attention of some of New York City's most renowned DJ's, and has also graced airwaves internationally, including Denmark and Sweden. Manchin currently resides in Toronto, where he writes both alone and with other writers.
Manchin’s latest project involved co-writing with Ervin Drake, who wrote such standards as “Quando, Quando, Quando" and “It Was A Very Good Year," the latter of which has been recorded by Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Barbara Streisand and many others. He has also worked with Peter Gabriel, Chin Injeti, Jack D. Elliot, DJ Julian Marsh, Paul Milner, Chris Briscoe and Candi Pennella (of Candi and the Backbeat), among countless others.
